Just curious to find out if boys hoard records too. Any thoughts?

guys collecting records? Come off it! Guys play guitars, girls buy the records. Everybody knows that!

I'll admit it, I used to collect records before I found my true masculine identity. I got to have over a million of the stupid things... now I'm selling them on ebay! I guess that makes me a de-collector or something.

Anyone wanna buy a "Monkees Go Mod" book from 1966?

Maybe your subconcious mind (or some special function of the program) decided that you should double post that...

thats weird that you'd ask if guys collect records...i've been working at the same record store for 6 years and ALL I SEE ARE MEN...its almost weird when i see a girl buy vinyl!

            Maybe Bomp! attracts broads?

It's just fashionism. The Bomp! logo makes breasts look bigger. And we all know that big boobies are better.

Actually that's only if you wear a "small". Most of our customers are demanding XXXL and larger! Yes, maybe a tight shirt makes your breasts look larger, but the Bomp logo makes you seem smarter! Does that cancel out with the average guy?

P.S. Fashionism? Please tell me you're not a "fashionista"!

I know I'm lazy, but... does Record City have a copy of The Get Lost on vinyl. I've been trying to get my hands on one, and---well.... I know I'm lazy, but if you wrap it up, I'll take it.
                Honest.

I've worked at record stores for years as well, among them the Bay Area Amoebas. Sadly, most of the girls I saw there were GFs, drug in by their more obsessive significant others. You were kidding right?

Guys totally have WAY more of the OCD/nerd/collectors gene, though I ain't proud of it. This isn't to say that I haven't known a few obsessy Bessie's, but...

I'll admit, I do. Though, it's difficult to find good stuff when you live on a rock in the middle of the ocean.

um.... I gotta agree.... my experience, most music "snobs" and collectors are guys... it's rare when I find a girl as rabid as I am. In fact, in college, a male friend of mine who was also in a band once told me how awestruck he was to know a girl so into music. He said most girls he knew just like and listen to whatever their boyfriend likes....

Sorry to be so severe upon my sex, but my experience confirms that this is more often than not true... rabid female music fans are not all that common

I think chick collectors probably get more enjoyment out of the records they buy... Actually playing them and showing them off and such. Most of the guy collectors I know are of the "buy it in mint condition, wrap it in plastic and lock it away in a temperature controlled room" variety. What the hell use is that?

Hey guys I wanted to start a tribe for people to Trading/Buying/Selling records without bugging the people who just want to talk about music without feeling like people are posting adds. Anybody want to sign up?

(Oh yeah... I'm going to post this to a few Tribes I'm on. If I get you more than once, I'm real sorry.)

Inasmuch as one can generalize, it generally is. Actually I think Margaret was totally pulling our legs with that topic heading, and I also think there's really nothing to say about it beyond what already has been!

Now, as for "styles" of record collecting.. I know some girls with incredible collections, but they are usually build around some thing. I do believe it's guys who try to acquire every catalong number in a label series, stuff like that. But does anybody even do that anymore?

i have personally never met a girl that collected records. i wish i would. as for collecting every number in a catalog series...do you mean like memorize every disc in the Verve Rudy Van Gelder series? have contemplated how much it would cost to buy every High in the Mid-Sixties LP in the Bomp catalog (Texas is my favorite)? no, i don't think anybody does that anymore. okay, i confess. i do, except if there are a few that i know suck, i skip them.

I have around 50,000 of them. It always seemed to me that it was mostly guys that were into serious record collecting, but I've always wanted to meet girls that were into it.

    Definitely not! I love 45's and LP's --- and I'm no "Chick".

Most of my musician friends, gender notwithstanding, are positively obsessive about their vinyl collections.

Not in my personal experience, in fact quite the opposite. Most collector-types I've met are real skinny/real fat guys with severe OCD, myself no exception. Of the few chicks I've met with more than a few token Duran Duran and Rick James LP's from yard sales, most of them were just collecting as a fashion accessory to attract hipster guys in bands. I have friends in Philly who say there's plenty of genuinely vinyl-obsessed chicks out there with collections that would put mine to shame. If I sound like a chauvanist pig, please bear in mind I've living in Bumphuck, Pennsyltucky on/off for the last fifteen years...
